Division Euglenophyta
I. Structure.
Cell membrane, with pellicle
Cytostome, cytopharynx, and reservoir
Flagellae (pectinate), flagellar swelling, stigma, contractile vacuole
Chloroplasts, pyrenoids
Pigments - chlorophylls a & b, carotenoids, & several xanthophylls
II. Nutrition
Mostly autotrophs but some are saprotrophs, holozoic, or parasitic.
III. Food reserves are paramylon and lipids.
IV.Reproduction is by longitudinal fission. Normal sexual reproduction
is lacking.
V. Representative genera include Euglena, Phacus.
